International PhD Cum Laude in Arts and Education from the University of Granada, the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Barcelona and the University of Girona, she is the Host and Academic Director of the ISMMS-Spain Conference. Among other qualifications, Susana holds a degree in Social Work and Master's degrees in Research and Aesthetic Education in Arts, Music and Design, as well as in Feminist Studies, Gender and Citizenship. She is Associate Editor of Metal Music Studies Journal and President of the Metal Music Studies Spain Association. Among other projects, she has developed the Rock & Metal Encounter at the University of Jaén and the community-based research project Breakthrough Ritual on gender barriers in metal music. She has published articles in journals such as Metal Music Studies or Matèria. International Journal d'Art, and international book chapters. Her upcoming book "Feminist Metal: Learning from the Un-Appropriable Others of the Underground", will be published by Lexington Books (2025). Her main lines of research focus on psychosociology and pedagogy applied to urban popular music, cultural studies and gender studies, with special emphasis on the analysis of inequalities and social transformation through the arts. She has carried out research stays at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and has been invited as a speaker at Conferences, Masters, Seminars and Courses at European and Latin American Universities, as well as a member of the Scientific Committee at the UNAM International Gender Congress.
